Well, Well...

As it turns out we have another interesting, if not confusing, item related to the house.  Our water well started smelling like rotten eggs about 5 weeks ago.  For almost a year, no issues.  Turns out we have kind of Iron bacteria in the water and the hot water makes it smell.  I've been told it is not harmful and relative easy to fix, but, it requires opening our well.  Which lead me to, where is our well?

Well, it's not where it should be,or at least it's not how it should be...  The well pipe should normally stick up out of the ground about 18" to 24".  With some help from several sources, I was able to determine my well was in my driveway under a metal grate.  The following pictures are more for the well company that's going to weld an extension on the well head so I can have better access to it.  Of course, it's not that simple, since it's in my driveway near the corner of a parking area, I'll, of courses, have to dig up part of my driveway and extend the parking area to protect the well from being hit by a car as well as keep it out of the asphalt driveway...

I had to dig out this part, all you saw when removing the grate was mud.  At first I thought it was a drain!

One of the reasons to adjust the driveway is so the water that runs down the hill when it rains, doesn't run right in the area of the well.  Not the best thought out plan.

The well aligns perfectly with the part of the house that sticks out to the right of the garage.  In that location in the basement is the water pipe and power for the well pump.  At least it's a perfectly strait shot from there to the well...  I'll only lose about 36" of a parking area in the driveway. Where the tree is and orange stick is a garden area I'll extend around the new well head...

Before and After Pictures

Here are a bunch of pictures of what our house looked like before we started remodeling it. I'll add pictures of "after" as I have time.

 Before
 After
Mudroom
Most of the time we come into the house via the garage which is behind that door. Slightly behind where the picture was taken, is a small bathroom and closet on opposite sides of the room

Kitchen!
When exiting the mud room you enter the kitchen (to the left of this picture).  The door behind the fridge goes into the office.  You also get a good view of the swinging door that used to go between the butlers pantry and the dining room..  It even had a little window ;)

New mudroom - sorry don't have a wide angle lens on my camera

New kitchen - the door to the office is still to the left.
Kitchen
Looking from the dining room towards TV room.  Notice the swinging door, the small pass-thru to the kitchen. That small area was called a "Butlers Pantry".  We'll never have a butler!

The Butlers Pantry is gone, made that entire space part of the kitchen

Here is what was in the Butlers Pantry
The fridge is where the butlers area was
Here is a view from the kitchen into the TV room
This is the new view - we removed the wall completely
Additional view of the kitchen.

TV Room
To the left is where the opening is to the kitchen.

Dining Room
To the right is where the door is to the kitchen.  To the left is a door to the living room, and to the left and behind is a door to the foyer, front door and stairs

Living Room
To the far right is the door to the dining room and directly to the right is the door to the foyer and front door

Foyer
That's the front door, and opening into the living room

Foyer
Looking back towards to the dining room. That small hallway off to the right is to the kitchen.  The wall to the right is a bathroom and then a door to my office.

Foyer
Looking up the stairs towards the second floor.

Office
This is a view from the corner of the office, behind me is the foyer door. The door you can see goes to the kitchen and mudroom.

Going upstairs takes you to a landing and open hallway.  The first thing to the right is the boys bathroom

Master bedroom - standing in the doorway looking in.

Master bedroom. The door to the right is from the hallway - it is not into the bathroom.  The lighted area towards the back-middle is a small hallway with two closest, and on the right is a small linen closet and then, the door into the bathroom, and finally a small sitting area for someone to do their makeup.

Master bathroom. Note, the door to the bathroom was not from the bedroom but through the closet and makeup area.  The only door into this room was adjacent to the toilet.
This was the tub in the master bathroom. This picture was taken from essentially standing over the toilet.  Door to the right.  What you can barely see is that across from the tub was a small walk in shower.

Moving Phase II

Well, I thought that big truck would hold everything with room to spare… NOT THE CASE!   The Phase II move was supposed to be me and my dog Rosie taking a nice five day trip across the country, wandering around and exploring, like I've done so many times before.  Unfortunately, we couldn't fit so much stuff I had to rent a 6x12 uHaul trailer to try and take the remaining stuff.  And let me tell you, I still left items in Phoenix!!!

This trip was four days long (way take five, I couldn't go exploring down old dirt roads or small towns with a trailer!) and we were there.  The plan was for me to sleep in the back of the truck because I have it setup for camping with a queen sized matric back there.  But NOPE!  I had stuff in the back of the truck too!!!  So what happened?  I slept in the back of the crew cab, WITH ROSIE!  I really should have gotten a picture of that.   In all fairness, it was actually pretty comfortable.  Rosie's quite the snuggler anyway so she didn't mind 😊

Good bye old house!

By Mom!   Come visit soon!

Hum – looks a little out of place!
